Varsity Track East Jackson Invitational

Varsity Track – The Oglethorpe tracksters had their first meet of the season last Saturday.  You remember last Saturday; it rained everywhere but at East Jackson where the meet took place.  OC did well, too, coming in third overall for the boys and fifth for the girls.  Not too bad considering they were in competition against nine other schools ranging from 5A all the way to 1A.  The results for the boys breaks down thusly:
100 Meter Dash – Sherman Williams came in 7th, one spot out of the points.  Jovan Jenkins and Tron Armstrong followed behind Williams.
1600 Meter Run – Carl Mitcham came in 23rd overall with a time of 6:08.44
3200 Meter Run – Carl Mitcham and Clay Conway were 18th and 19th for OC.
110 Meter Hurdles – Kendrick Presley took first place overall with a time of 15:79.  Deuntrez Fleming was 12th for OC at 19.99.
300 Meter Hurdles – Kendrick Presley again was first overall at 43:37.  Jovan Jenkins was 4th overall followed by Fleming in 6th. 
4X100 Meter Relay – OC came in third with Maurice Freeman, Jovan Jenkins Sherman Williams and Tevin Miller as OC’s A relay team.  OC’s B relay team, consisting of Deuntrez Fleming, Ta carter, Kendrick Presley and Xavier Eberhart can in 7th overall. 
4X200 Relay – The Patriots came in first with a slight adjustment in the positioning of the A team members; Sherman Williams, Maurice Freeman, Deuntrez Fleming and Tron Armstrong.
4X400 Relay – OC came in tenth in this competition with Kendrick Presley, Justin Whitman, Tron Armstrong and anchor Dillon Evans.
4X800 Relay – Oglethorpe earned the 11th spot in this race.  Dillon Evans, Kenny Cinereski, Clay Conway and anchor Justin Whitman.
High Jump – Derrik Pollard tied for 15th with six other competitors.
Pole Vault – Dillon Evans cleared 11 feet to earn fourth place and Jarrett McElheney made the 10 foot bar for 7th.
Long Jump – Sherman Williams came in second with a jump of 20-05.5 feet followed in fifth spot by Xavier Eberhart at 19-07.50.  Jovan Jenkins took 7th position with a jump of 19-05.50.
Triple Jump – Xavier Eberhart came in third for Oglethorpe with a distance of 42-02.00 feet and he was followed by Kendrick Presley in 8th spot with a jump of 39-01.00.
Shot Put – Jay Fleming put the shot 40 feet which was good enough for 9th place.  Casey Pacheco was 39-04 and that put him in 13th spot.  Davonta Moore hefted the shot 39.01 which put him in 15th place.
Discus Throw – Casey Pacheco threw the discus 126-09 and earned 4th place.  His brother Cody Pacheco came in 15th.

Girls

100 Meter Dash – dede Fleming, Dreka Howard andtika Howard came in 10, 11 and 12 with less than a tenth of a second separating the three.
100 Meter Hurdles – Kiki Presley had a time of 19.25 which was good enough for 14th place.  She was followed by Trenetta Smith in 22nd.
300 Meter Hurdles – Kiki Presley came in 9th with a time of 54.56.  Coming in 19th for Oglethorpe was Caroline Hansford and Jessie Wray was 22nd. 
Pole Vault – Hannah Murphy came in 4th for OC.
Long Jump – Dede Fleming was 5th with a jump of 14.02.  Tika Howard was 15th.
Triple Jump – Dede Fleming’s 31-05.25 was good enough for first place.  Fleming was followed by caroline Hansford in 10th and Jessie Wray in 14th. 
Shot Put – OC’s Aubrey Fearnow took second with a distance of 36.06.  Emily Barnett was 22nd.
Discus – Fearnow’s discus throw of 102.10 took third place. 
        In this meet, the boys came in third behind a Parkview HS a AAAAA school and Loganville HS a AAAA school.  The Patriots were first among all other AA schools that included Jefferson, Dawson Co, Jackson Co and East Jackson.  The girls, although fifth overall, came in second behind Jefferson for the AA schools competing. 
        OC’s next meet will be at home, Tuesday, March 06, 2012 starting at 4:30pm.v
