Baseball OC vs McCormick HS

.
Varsity Baseball – If the game against Cedar Shoals was a region warm-up then the game against McCormick HS (from McCormick, SC) was a nothing more than a scrimmage.  OC handily defeated the Chiefs 13-0 in five innings after the mercy rule took effect.
J.R. LaFleur was on the mound for OC for his first start of the season.  LaFleur pitched an inning for OC last Friday against Cedar and continued his consistent ways against McCormick.  On the day LaFluer pitched all five no hit innings with five strikeouts and one base on balls.

OC jumped all over McCormick in the first inning scoring four runs before the final out.  Clay Ogle opened for the Patriots with a leadoff triple.  Nick Mathews followed up with an RBI single.  Matt Beyatt hit a double moving Mathews to third.  Up next was catcher J.D. Sharp.  The ball got by the Chief’s catcher allowing Mathews to score from third and moved Beyatt to third.  Sharp hit the ball to short and was put out at first but Beyatt scored for OC.
Through a series of hit batters and walks the McCormick pitcher loaded the bases with OC runners.  Dillon Day came to the plate and earned an RBI from being hit by a pitch, which scored LaFleur who got on base from being hit by a pitch.

And that’s how it went.  The Patriots had big scoring innings in the third and fourth so by the time the bottom of the fifth came around it was time to go invoke the mercy rule and go home.
For the game the scorebook looked like this:
Nick Mathews 2 for 3, 2 R, 3 RBIs, BB
JR LaFleur 1 for 2, 3B, R, 2 RBIs, BB, HP
Matt Beyatt 1 for 2, 2B, 2 R, BB
Dillon Day 1 for 2, 2 R, 1 RBI, BB, HP
OC scored 13 runs on 9 hits with help from 4 McCormick errors.
OC plays again Saturday, March 10 as part of the Patriots 2012 Diamond Day. 10:30am vs. Washington-Wilkes and 3:30pm vs. Grovetown (Washington-Wilkes and Grovetown will play at 1:00pm.
OC is now 4-1 for the season and starts 8-AA Sub-Region play next Wednesday, March 14 vs. North Oconee at home at 5:00pm.
Many thanks to Coach Bramlett who compiles the statistics for each game and sends them out.
