Soccer OC vs Social Circle

Girls Soccer – The Patriot’s girl’s varsity soccer team traveled to Social Circle to take on the winless Redskins Friday night.  Once again, OC demonstrated why they are a region threat by defeating SC 6-0.
Katie Pilson and Alexis Miller each had two goals for Oglethorpe; Brianna Basinger and Laura Abney each score a goal in the game.
The Patriots (now 5-1, 0-1 region) have nearly a week off to prepare for region rival East Jackson (3-2-1), next Thursday, March 8th, at Commerce.

Boys Soccer – It was a highlight reel night for the boy’s soccer team with OC notching up their second win of the season in a 3-2 defeat of Social Circle.
Nick Sanchez was top scorer for OC with goals in both the first and second half.  Griffin Giles, however, put a free kick in the top right hand corner of the net from thirty yards out to seal OC’s victory late in the second half.
Sean Atkinson, OC’s midfielder, was issued a red card after being given two yellow cards.  Depending on how the referee makes out his report Atkinson may not have to sit out the next game.  Giles was also issued a yellow card for delay of game.  A similar incident occurred in the closing moments of the game with a Redskin player but he was not issued a yellow card.
Unlike the Riverside game where the Patriots found themselves on the defensive most of the night, Oglethorpe had many shots on goal, and but for the Redskin’s keeper would have scored many more.
OC, now 2-5, travel to East Jackson on Thursday, March 8th to take on the Eagles 2-3-1.  This match may be closer than people think.  East Jackson tied Madison County 1-1, a team that defeated OC, and beat Athens Academy, another team that has beat OC.
