Varsity Soccer

Girls – The Patriot girl’s varsity soccer team took on the East Hall Vikings Tuesday evening and came away with a 4-1 win.
Laura Abney started things off for OC with just 2:30 into the game when she received a pass from Lexi Miller and drove in for OC’s first goal. Less than a minute later Abney shoots again from 25 yards out but the ball hits the crossbar.  Fabiola Rojas went after the rebound but it was blocked. Less than a minute after that East Hall scored as a result of a free kick just outside the box.

Both teams fought for the next thirty minutes back and forth.  With nine minutes left in the half Heather Helmreich just missed a shot over the goal from a throw in near the corner.  Four and a half minutes later Ally Miller takes a pass from Abney and puts it in the back of the goal for OC’s second score of the half.  Just two minutes later at three minutes left in the half Abney shoots from 20 yards out but hits the right post.
Abney’s shot went wide and finally out of bounds.  East Jackson’s keeper set up for a goal kick which Abney took directly and lobbed the ball back towards the net over the keepers head.  It just dropped right in the goal and that gave OC a 3-1 lead at the half.
The second half could be termed Sarah’s half, for freshman Sarah Chastain.  If Chastain shot once on goal she shot a dozen times.  It was just fate that she didn’t score any goals.  Coach Rindone realigned some of her players to give others experience at different positions and Chastain was up front.

Also up front was Bailey Pledger who at the 23 minute mark scored OC’s fourth and final goal from an East Hall goal kick.  At 16:38 Abney got yellow carded for a tackle on an East Hall player which caused protests from the crowd.
Oglethorpe controlled the majority of the game.  Except for the one East Hall goal most of the game was spent in the East Hall half of the field.
Oglethorpe plays Greene County on Thursday, February 16th at 7:30pm.
Boys – They won, we lost.  The boys varsity takes on Greene County on Thursday, February 16th at 5:30pm.
