Varsity Wrestling

OCHS – In their first match after the Christmas holidays the OC Patriot varsity wrestlers hosted the Washington-Wilkes Tigers and Greene County Tigers Tuesday afternoon.  Although WW came away as the overall winners it was only because of the number of wrestlers they brought and the fact that OC was missing several competitors due to illness or being out of town.

Nevertheless, Justin Whitman who came into the meet undefeated continued his winning ways with a second period pin of a WW wrestler.  Whitman, already up by 11 points when he won, put another check in the win column.
Tee Hull wrestled all three periods only to tie the WW wrestler 3-3.  In the first overtime the WW wrestler was awarded a point for an escape thus ending the match.
Caden Conway

Andrew Maro drew a default win and then Matt Flores pinned his WW opponent in the third period after scoring 17 points.  Caden Conway picked up a nice win in the second period when he pinned his WW wrestler.  Conway was ahead in points at the time of the pin 6-3.
Cody Flores in the 120lb class went one and a half periods before pinning his WW wrestler.  Flores was up 12-2 in the match when he achieved a pin.
OC took a break to watch WW and Greene County wrestle each other.  It didn’t take long since Greene only had nine wrestlers.

Joey Daniels
In the second round Andrew Maro picked up a real win by pinning his Greene opponent in the second period.  Maro’s score was 9-0 at the time of the pin.  Joey Daniels didn’t allow his Greene wrestler to score any points in his three period 12-0 win in the 195 class.
Matt Flores made quick work of this Greene opponent by pinning him at 2:04 in the first period.  Nick Meadows, too, had a first period pin of his Greene wrestler as did Tee Hull.  Hull took 1:40 to pin his Greene wrestler.
Justin Whitman took his unbeaten streak to 22 matches by defeating his Greene opponent with a second period pin, but only after an 11-0 score.
The OC wrestlers will be at Elbert Co this Friday and Saturday, January 6th and 7th, for the Region Duels.
