From Coach Norton: The boys and girls cross country teams had a great showing at the East Jackson
Eagle Invitational Saturday. Once again the boys finished ahead of region
rival Jefferson and a handful of other teams. Top times of the day all belonged
to a group of very talented freshmen Sid Wightman (18:25) Abe Tompkins (19:01),
Taviz Reid (19:22), and Garrett McCormack (19:33). These boys have been working
very hard at practice and the results are starting to show up here in the middle
of the season. There's no telling how fast these boys will be by the Region meet
or by their senior year. Needless to say, the future of the team is bright.
Other boys who saw drastic improvement between the first race and this one
included Brandon Pinto, Lee Boswell, Christian Ruppelt and a whole slew of
others.
On the girls side, we were missing some key runners due to club
soccer obligations but I was very happy with how they did. Sarah Chastain led
the team with a 23:47 which moves her up in the top 5 on the school's all time
top 10. Freshman Vivi Diaz had a nice showing at 27:30 and will continue to be a
big contributor to the varsity team for many years.
The next meet is this
Saturday at home. It's called the Best in Class Invitational and awards will he
based on grade level. There are about 15 high schools from around the area
attending as well as about 5-6 middle schools. First race is at 9am. Come out
and support the Patriots!
